This page is about a bill. That means that it's not the law yet, but some people want it to be the law. It could change quickly, and some of the information is just a draft.

Emergency Management Bill (No 2)

Emergency response and recovery: states of emergency and transition periods - Declaring transition periods - Commencement, duration, extension, and termination

152: Further provisions relating to extending transition period

Illustration for Emergency Management Bill (No 2)

If a transition period is extended, it starts just before the original period ends, as stated in section 150(3) or (4). You need to know when it will end: for a national transition period, it is 90 days after the extension starts, and for a local transition period, it is 28 days after the extension starts. The transition period can end earlier if it is terminated. A transition period can be extended many times. If a local transition period is extended three or more times, the person extending it must tell the Minister and the public about the extension, following the rules in section 154. The Minister must then inform the House of Representatives about the extension as soon as possible.
