This page is about a bill. That means that it's not the law yet, but some people want it to be the law. It could change quickly, and some of the information is just a draft.

Emergency Management Bill (No 2)

Emergency response and recovery: states of emergency and transition periods - Declaring states of emergency - Commencement, duration, extension, and termination

118: Further provisions relating to extending state of emergency

You could also call this:

"What happens when a state of emergency is extended"

Illustration for Emergency Management Bill (No 2)

If a state of emergency is extended, it starts right before it would have ended under section 116(1)(b) or before the previous extension would have ended. You need to know when the extension starts to figure out when it ends. The extension ends 7 days after it starts. If a state of emergency was previously extended under section 117, the new extension starts before the previous one ends. The state of emergency can be extended many times. This does not stop the state of emergency from being terminated under section 119. You can extend a state of emergency as many times as needed. The rules about extending a state of emergency do not affect terminating it under section 119. The extension of a state of emergency is for a set time, which is 7 days.
