If you are a probation officer, you can give some of your powers to another employee in the department. This employee must be suitably trained to control, direct, and supervise offenders doing community work. You must give these powers in writing, and it must be in line with what is said in section 65 of the Sentencing Act 2002.

You can only do this for offenders who have been sentenced to community work. The employee you give powers to will then be able to supervise these offenders. This helps make sure offenders are doing their community work as they should be.

26Probation officers may delegate power to supervise offenders on community work

  1. A probation officer may delegate, in writing, to any suitably trained employee of the department his or her powers to control, direct, and supervise offenders subject to a sentence of community work in accordance with section 65 of the Sentencing Act 2002.
