Corrections Act 2004

Corrections system - Establishment and operation of prisons - Prisoners at risk of self-harm

61C: Confirmation of at-risk prisoner assessment

You could also call this:

"Checking if a prisoner is at risk of hurting themselves"

Illustration for Corrections Act 2004

If you are a prisoner who might hurt yourself, the prison manager must get advice from the health centre manager within 24 hours after your assessment. The prison manager will think about this advice and then decide what to do. They will either say you are not at risk of hurting yourself or confirm that you are at risk.

The prison manager makes this decision based on the advice they got from the health centre manager. You can find more information about how this law was changed by looking at the Corrections Amendment Act 2019. The prison manager's decision is important to keep you safe while you are in prison.
