Illustration for Corrections Act 2004

To stop prisoners from making unauthorised electronic communications, the chief executive can authorise someone to use special equipment. You can use this equipment to detect, intercept, or disrupt radiocommunications within prison boundaries. This is to prevent prisoners from using electronic communication devices in a way that breaks the rules, as stated in section 141.

When using this equipment, you must be careful not to cause harmful interference outside the prison. This means you should not use the equipment in a way that would disrupt radiocommunications outside the prison boundaries.

The person using the equipment must follow the rules and only use it for the purpose of stopping unauthorised electronic communications within the prison.
