Corrections Act 2004

Corrections system - Miscellaneous - Provision of information to persons under control or supervision

164: Provision of information to persons under control or supervision

You could also call this:

"You have the right to get information you can understand when you're under control or supervision."

Illustration for Corrections Act 2004

When you are under control or supervision, you have the right to get information in a way you can understand. This means the person giving you the information must explain it so you can reasonably be expected to understand it. The information can be about things that are required by the Corrections Act 2004 or any rules made under this Act.

If new information becomes available that is different from what you were initially told, the prison manager or the person in charge of your supervision must make sure you get this new information in a way you can understand. They must do this as soon as reasonably possible. This is so you always have the information you need to know.
