Corrections Act 2004

Corrections system - Miscellaneous - Application of other Acts

179: Application of certain Acts to various office holders

You could also call this:

"Some laws don't apply to people who work in prisons, even if they have a special job."

If you work in a prison, you are not considered to be employed by the government just because you have a certain job. This means you are not covered by the Public Service Act 2020 or the Government Superannuation Fund Act 1956. You might have been appointed to your job under certain sections of the Corrections Act, or you might have a contract to manage a prison or provide security.

If you have one of these contracts, you are still not considered to be employed by the government. This rule applies even if you have a contract to provide security under section 166 of the Corrections Act.

You need to know that some laws do not apply to you just because you work in a prison or have a certain type of contract.
