If you deliberately go onto prison land without a good reason, you can get in trouble. You will be in trouble if you know it is prison land or if you should have known. You can also get in trouble if you hang around a place where prisoners are, and you do not leave after a police officer or prison staff member tells you to. If you do either of these things, you might have to go to prison for up to three months, or you might have to pay a fine of up to $2,000, or you might have to do both. You will have broken the law and can be punished.

142Trespassing in, or loitering about, prison

  1. Every person commits an offence and is liable on conviction to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 3 months, to a fine not exceeding $2,000, or to both who,—

  2. without reasonable excuse, deliberately trespasses on any land, knowing or having reasonable cause to believe that it is part of a prison; or
    1. loiters about a place where prisoners are detained or employed, and refuses or fails to leave after being warned by a constable or a staff member of the prison.
