Corrections Act 2004

Corrections system - Offences - Other offences

142: Trespassing in, or loitering about, prison

You could also call this:

"Stay away from prisons: going in or hanging around without a good reason is against the law"

Illustration for Corrections Act 2004

If you deliberately go onto prison land without a good reason, you can get in trouble. You will be in trouble if you know it is prison land or if you should have known. You can also get in trouble if you hang around a place where prisoners are, and you do not leave after a police officer or prison staff member tells you to. If you do either of these things, you might have to go to prison for up to three months, or you might have to pay a fine of up to $2,000, or you might have to do both. You will have broken the law and can be punished.
