"Inspectors of corrections can give advice and orders to keep people safe"

When you are looking at how inspectors of corrections work, you need to know they can make recommendations. They can suggest changes to practices or procedures to the right person. You might wonder who the right person is - it is whoever the inspector thinks should hear their suggestion. Inspectors of corrections can also give directions to people in charge of others. They do this to keep someone from being in danger. The chief executive can cancel a direction given by an inspector at any time.

If the chief executive cancels a direction, they must tell the Chief Ombudsman right away. They also have to explain why they cancelled it. You should know that inspectors of corrections have these powers to help keep people safe. The chief executive and the inspector work together to make sure the right things are being done.
