You can ask for your name to be removed from the roll of barristers and solicitors at any time, but you need to get permission from the Council of the New Zealand Law Society first. You can also ask for your name to be put back on the roll if it has been removed, and you need to get permission from the Council of the New Zealand Law Society again. The Registrar will then remove or restore your name and publish a notice in the Gazette to let everyone know. You will have to pay for the cost of publishing the notice. The Registrar will only make the change if they are satisfied that you have got permission from the Council of the New Zealand Law Society. You can find more information about this by looking at s 52 of a related law.
