Illustration for Lawyers and Conveyancers Act 2006

You are part of a Standards Committee with at least 3 people. At least one of these people must not be a lawyer, they are called a lay member. The number of people in the committee is decided by the rules that set it up. You need to follow rules that say how the committee works and how members are chosen. These rules decide how long members stay in the committee and how to fill empty spots. They also decide when a member can be removed from the committee. The rules must say how to choose people for the committee, including the lay member. They must also say what happens if someone leaves the committee or is removed. This helps the committee work properly and make good decisions.
