You deposit money into a trust account with a lawyer or conveyancer. They do not have to pay you interest on that money. The bank holding the money also does not have to pay you interest. They only have to account for the interest to the New Zealand Law Society, the New Zealand Society of Conveyancers, or the Management Committee. You can find more information by looking at the Lawyers and Conveyancers Act 2006 and similar laws like the 1982 No 123 s 91N.
