Child Support Act 1991

Liability to pay child support under formula assessment - Determining care cost percentages

16: Determining care cost percentages

You could also call this:

"How much of a child's care costs each parent is responsible for"

When you have a child who qualifies for child support, the Commissioner needs to work out how much each parent or carer is responsible for the child's care costs. This is called the care cost percentage.

To figure out your care cost percentage, the Commissioner looks at how much time you spend caring for the child. They use the information they've gathered about your care arrangements to do this.

Once they know how much care you provide, they use a special table in the law to determine your care cost percentage. This table is called Schedule 2, and it shows what percentage applies based on how much care you give.

The care cost percentage is important because it helps decide how much child support you might need to pay or receive.
