“The Commissioner can decide to change how child support is worked out”

The Commissioner can decide to change how child support is calculated for a child. This means they can choose not to use the usual formula set out in the law. They can do this for all or some of the rules about how child support is normally worked out. The Commissioner has to follow certain steps when making this decision. These steps are explained in a specific part of the law.
