Child Support Act 1991

236: Changes in published statistics to be disregarded

You could also call this:

“Ignoring small changes in money numbers for child support”

This law talks about how Statistics New Zealand publishes some important numbers. These numbers are about how much money people earn on average each week and how much things cost. Sometimes, Statistics New Zealand might need to fix a mistake in these numbers.

If they fix a mistake after January 1st, just before a new child support year starts, you don’t need to worry about the change. This applies to two specific situations:

  1. If the fix is about how much people earn, and the original numbers were from mid-February before the most recent tax year started.

  2. If the fix is about how much things cost, and the original numbers were for the year ending on December 31st before the child support year began.

In these cases, you can ignore the corrections when dealing with child support matters. This helps keep things simple and consistent for everyone involved.
