Child Support Act 1991

General provisions - Miscellaneous provisions

219A: Power of Commissioner where small debit results from exchange rate fluctuations

You could also call this:

“Commissioner can forgive small child support debts caused by currency changes”

If you owe a small amount of child support at the end of the year, and it’s less than $20, the Commissioner might decide not to collect it. This can happen if:

You lived outside of New Zealand during that year.

You paid your child support in a foreign currency.

The small amount you owe is because of changes in exchange rates.

The Commissioner can choose to do this even if other parts of the law say differently.
