Child Support Act 1991

Offences and penalties

210: Penalties for offences

You could also call this:

“What happens if you break child support rules”

If you break the rules in section 172 of the Child Support Act, you can be fined. The first time you do this, you might have to pay up to $15,000 for each rule you break. If you do it again after that, you could be fined up to $25,000 for each rule you break.

If you break the rules in section 208 (except for section 208(j)), the fines are different. The first time, you might have to pay up to $2,000 for each rule you break. The second time, it could be up to $4,000 for each rule. If you do it more times after that, you might have to pay up to $6,000 for each rule you break.

If you break the rule in section 208(j), which is about helping someone else break the rules, you could be fined. The fine would be the same as the biggest fine the person you helped could get.
