Plumbers, Gasfitters, and Drainlayers Act 2006

Preliminary and key provisions - Key provisions - Specific sanitary plumbing exemptions

16: Exemption for sanitary plumbing in areas in rural districts

You could also call this:

"Doing your own plumbing in rural areas is allowed if the Minister says it's okay."

Illustration for Plumbers, Gasfitters, and Drainlayers Act 2006

The Minister can choose areas where you can do your own sanitary plumbing. These areas cannot be cities, boroughs, or town districts. You can do sanitary plumbing in these areas if the Minister has given a notice saying it is okay. The Minister must talk to the local authority before giving a notice or changing one. You can finish any sanitary plumbing you have started, even if the Minister changes or cancels the notice. You can also finish it if section 17 applies. A notice from the Minister is a type of secondary legislation, which has its own publication requirements, as explained in Part 3 of the Legislation Act 2019.
