Biosecurity Act 1993

Functions, powers, and duties - Local authorities

13: Powers of regional councils

You could also call this:

"What powers do regional councils have to keep their area safe from pests?"

You have a regional council in your area. This council has some powers to help keep your region safe from pests and other unwanted organisms. The council can monitor and watch for pests, and make plans to get rid of them or manage them.

The council can also make and put into action plans to manage pests and pathways. They can choose an agency to help with these plans, and they can stop or change plans if needed. You can find more information about these plans in Part 5 and section 100(4), section 100B(4), and section 100D.

The council can also gather information, do research, and take action to keep your region safe. They have the same powers as territorial authorities, which are explained in section 14.
