Biosecurity Act 1993

Importation of risk goods - Inspections, declarations, etc

37A: Approval of arrival of craft at port not approved as place of first arrival

You could also call this:

"Getting permission to arrive at a New Zealand port that's not usually allowed"

You can ask the Director-General for approval to arrive at a port that is not usually allowed as a first point of entry. The Director-General can approve your request if they think that adding some conditions can reduce the risks of bringing in unwanted goods or having a craft enter New Zealand. They can give you approval, but only if you agree to certain conditions.

You might be asking for approval for any craft, or for a specific type of craft, or for a craft that is coming to New Zealand for a particular reason. The Director-General must talk to others, as outlined in section 37D, before making a decision about your request. They will look at the risks of bringing in unwanted goods and the risks of the craft entering New Zealand territory, as well as the type of craft and its purpose for coming to New Zealand, which can be compared to the rules in section 37.
