Biosecurity Act 1993

Importation of risk goods - Arrival of craft

19: Persons in charge of certain craft to obey directions of inspector or authorised person

You could also call this:

"People in charge of boats must follow an inspector's instructions to keep New Zealand safe."

When you are in charge of a craft that arrives in New Zealand, you must follow the directions of an inspector. This applies if your craft arrives in New Zealand or if it is carrying risk goods that it had when it arrived in New Zealand at another place. You must obey the inspector's directions about moving your craft, unloading goods, or letting crew or passengers off.

You must also follow the inspector's directions about keeping risk goods secure on your craft, as stated in section 18(2). You will need to give the inspector a report with certain information about your craft. You must answer the inspector's questions about your craft, its cargo, crew, passengers, stores, or voyage.

If you are getting off the craft, you may be asked to show your baggage to the inspector. You must make your baggage available for inspection if the inspector asks to see it. This is all part of helping to keep New Zealand safe from risks that might be on your craft.
