Biosecurity Act 1993

Importation of risk goods - Craft risk management standards

24G: Issue

You could also call this:

"When to create a new biosecurity law, called a standard, and how it is made official."

The Director-General must decide whether or not to issue a standard after getting a recommendation. You can find out more about this recommendation in section 24F(5). If the Director-General decides to issue a standard, they must choose a date for it to come into force and include this date in the standard.

When the Director-General issues a standard, it is a type of law called secondary legislation, which has its own publication requirements, as explained in Part 3 of the Legislation Act 2019. The standard will start on the chosen date, even if it has not been published yet. This means the standard will be in effect from that date, regardless of its publication status.
