Animal Products Act 1999

Export of animal material and products - Registration of exporters

52: Director-General to maintain register of exporters

You could also call this:

"Government keeps a list of approved animal product exporters"

The Director-General has to keep a register of people who are allowed to export animal material or products. You can think of the register like a list of people who have permission to send certain animal products to other countries. The purpose of the register is to let the public know who is allowed to export these products, and to help the Director-General make sure exporters follow the rules.

The Director-General also has to keep the register open for you to look at, without charging you a fee, during reasonable hours at their office. If you want a copy of the register, you can ask for one and pay a reasonable charge for it. The register can be kept in different ways, such as on a computer or in a book, as long as the information can be easily accessed and used.

The Director-General can use electronic devices to store and access the information in the register, which means you might be able to look at it online or by using a special computer system. The Director-General has to make sure the register is available for you to inspect, and that you can get a copy of it if you need one, by visiting their office or using electronic means, including the Animal Products Amendment Act 2005 which is available on the legislation website.
