The Director-General can recognise you as an agency if you apply to manage and carry out certain functions and activities. You have to ask the Director-General to be recognised as an agency. The Director-General must consider if you are a fit and proper person to do the job.

Before the Director-General recognises you, they must think about whether to impose a condition under section 111(1) that requires you to manage or supply recognised persons to carry out some tasks. The Director-General must also be satisfied that you are a fit and proper person to manage and carry out the tasks for which recognition is sought. This means they look at your skills and resources to do the job.

When deciding if you are a fit and proper person, the Director-General looks at things like your skills and resources, any convictions against you, and your character and reputation. They also consider your ability to be impartial and independent, and if you meet the requirements of the Animal Products Act. The Director-General can look at other relevant matters too.
