Animal Products Act 1999

Homekill and recreational catch

66: Object of this Part

You could also call this:

"What this part of the law is about: keeping homekill and recreational catch separate and safe"

This part of the law is about homekill and recreational catch. You can kill and process your own animals or catch, or have someone else do it for you, as long as it is for your own use and not sold. The law wants to keep homekill and recreational catch separate from other animal products that are sold.

The law says that some people can help you with homekill or recreational catch services. These people must be listed, and they cannot do this work where other animal products are being processed, except for some butchers. If a butcher does both homekill and other animal products, they must have a special plan to manage the risks.

You need to know that butchers who do homekill and other work must follow special rules to keep everything safe. They have to think about the risk factors involved in doing both types of work in the same place. The law was changed on 26 September 2002 by the Animal Products Amendment Act 2002.
