Electricity Act 1992

Restrictions on electrical work - Exemptions

76: Exemption for work done under supervision

You could also call this:

“You can do some electrical work if someone qualified watches over you”

You are allowed to do certain electrical work or help with it, even if you’re not fully qualified. This is called being a ‘supervised person’. Here’s what you need to know:

You can only do the types of work that the rules say you’re allowed to do. You must have someone watching over you who is registered and has a current licence to supervise electrical work. While you’re doing the work, the electrical parts usually can’t be connected to power.

After you finish, the work needs to be tested and certified according to the rules. Then, a registered person with the right licence needs to connect it to the power supply. This person must have a licence that lets them supervise electrical work.

Remember, these rules are in place to keep everyone safe when dealing with electricity.
