Electricity Act 1992

Restrictions on electrical work - Exemptions

77: Exemption for trainees

You could also call this:

“Trainees can do some electrical work while learning to be an electrician”

You can do some electrical work if you are learning to be an electrician. This is called being a trainee. As a trainee, you can do electrical work that is allowed by the rules. You need to have a special certificate from the Board that says what work you can do. This certificate is called a limited certificate.

A trainee is someone who is learning how to do electrical work so they can become a registered electrician. This includes apprentices who are working in the electricity industry.

Even if you are a trainee, you can still do work under supervision as allowed by another rule (section 76).
