Electricity Act 1992

Registration and licensing of electrical workers and employer licences - Electrical worker registration and licensing - Classes of registration

86: Minimum standards for registration

You could also call this:

“Rules for becoming a registered electrician”

The Board can set minimum standards for registration in different ways. These can include:

You might need to have a specific degree, diploma, or certificate that the Board recognises.

You may have to complete a course or program that the Board approves.

You might need to pass a test or assessment that the Board sets up or approves.

The Board might look at whether you’re registered or licensed with an overseas organisation that does similar work.

You may need to have experience in providing certain kinds of services.

The Board might require you to have a certain level of skill or ability.

If you don’t have a degree, diploma, or certificate that the Board recognises, they might ask you to pass a specific exam or assessment. But they can only do this if you don’t already have one of those recognised qualifications.
