Search and Surveillance Act 2012

Amendments, repeals, and miscellaneous provisions - Regulation-making powers, transitional provisions, and review provision - Transitional provisions

356: Regulations providing for transitional matters

You could also call this:

"Rules to help when the law changes"

The Governor-General can make regulations to help when this Act comes into force. You might see some changes to how the law works during a special time called a transitional period. The Governor-General can decide what rules apply or do not apply during this time.

The Governor-General can also make regulations to help bring other regulations into force under this Act. This means they can create rules to make it easier for other laws to start working.

The regulations can say what some words mean, or which old laws still apply, during the transitional period. They can also cover other things that need to happen for the new law to work smoothly.

These special regulations cannot be made or stay in force after 1 April 2017. When the Governor-General makes these regulations, they are a type of secondary legislation, and you can learn more about what that means by looking at Part 3 of the Legislation Act 2019.
