177: Offences relating to stopping vehicles

If you do not do what the officer asks, you might go to prison for up to three months. A constable can arrest you without a warrant if they think you have not done what an enforcement officer asked you to do.

177Offences relating to stopping vehicles

  1. Every person commits an offence and is liable on conviction to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 3 months who—

  2. fails to stop as soon as practicable when required to do so by an enforcement officer exercising a power to stop or search a vehicle; and
    1. knows or ought reasonably to know that the person exercising the power is an enforcement officer.
