The Minister can approve, change or cancel a fisheries plan. You can think of a fisheries plan as a set of rules to help manage fishing in New Zealand. A fisheries plan can cover one or more types of fish, fishing years, or areas. The Minister can include things like objectives and strategies in a fisheries plan. These objectives and strategies are designed to support the purpose and principles of the Fisheries Act. They can also include sustainability measures, which are set out in sections like sections 11, 13, 14, and 15. A fisheries plan can have performance criteria to measure how well the objectives and strategies are working. It can also include conservation services, fisheries services, and contingency strategies. The Minister can consider proposals under Part 9 when looking at a fisheries plan.
