You are looking at the Fisheries Act 1996. This act has a schedule that defines different areas for managing fisheries. These areas are called fishery management areas. There are 10 areas in total. Each area has its own boundaries, which are described using lines and points on a map. The boundaries are based on the mean high-water coastline and the exclusive economic zone of New Zealand. The act also explains how to determine the boundaries and how they are used to manage fisheries.

The mean high-water coastline used in this schedule is based on the 1:50 000 topographic map series maintained by Land Information New Zealand.
For the purposes of this Act, all waters inland from the defined coastline will be considered as part of the quota management area or fishery management area with which they are contiguous and into which they flow directly.
