13: Duties of pilot-in-command

You could also call this:

As the pilot-in-command of an aircraft, you have important duties. You are in charge of making sure the aircraft flies safely. You need to look after all the passengers and crew to keep them safe and comfortable. You also have to make sure any cargo on the plane is safe.

You are the boss on the aircraft. You have the final say in controlling the aircraft while you are in command. You also have to make sure everyone on board behaves properly.

You have to follow the rules in this Act and any other rules made under this Act. However, there might be some exceptions to this in section 13A.

13Duties of pilot-in-command

  1. The pilot-in-command of an aircraft shall—

  2. be responsible for the safe operation of the aircraft in flight, the safety and well-being of all passengers and crew, and the safety of cargo carried; and
    1. have final authority to control the aircraft while in command and for the maintenance of discipline by all persons on board; and
      1. subject to section 13A, be responsible for compliance with all relevant requirements of this Act and regulations and rules made under this Act.
