The Director must choose at least one medical examiner by giving them an aviation document. These medical examiners will do the medical checks needed for pilots and air traffic controllers.

The Director can also choose one or more aviation examiners by giving them an aviation document. These examiners will do specific tests that the Director might ask for.

When the Director chooses these examiners, they use a special rule called section 9. The medical checks that the medical examiners do are described in another rule called section 27D.
