Civil Aviation Act 1990

Offences and penalties - General offences

51: Trespass

You could also call this:

“You can get in trouble for going into certain airport places without permission”

You can get in trouble if you go into certain places without permission. These places include airports, buildings, or areas where they work on things for aeroplanes. If someone in charge tells you not to go in or to leave, you must listen to them. The people who can tell you this are:

  • Someone the Director has given permission to in writing
  • A police officer
  • An aviation security officer

These people might also put up a sign telling you not to enter. If you ignore them and go in anyway, or if you stay when they tell you to leave, you’re breaking the law. This is called trespassing. If you do this without a good reason, you could go to jail for up to 3 months or have to pay up to $2,000.
