Civil Aviation Act 1990

Offences and penalties - Security offences

54: Security area and security enhanced area offences

You could also call this:

“Rules and punishments for misbehaving in airport security areas”

If you are in a security area or security enhanced area, you need to follow certain rules. If an aviation security officer asks for your name, address, and reason for being there, you must provide this information. If you don’t, you are breaking the law. The officer will first tell you that you are in a security area or security enhanced area before asking for these details.

If an aviation security officer tells you to leave a security area or security enhanced area, you must do so right away. If you refuse to leave, you are also breaking the law.

If you break these rules in a security area, you could go to jail for up to 3 months or have to pay a fine of up to $2,000. If you break these rules in a security enhanced area, the punishment is more severe. You could go to jail for up to 3 months or have to pay a fine of up to $5,000.
