Civil Aviation Act 1990

Functions, powers, and duties of participants in the civil aviation system

15: Director may require or carry out safety and security inspections and monitoring

You could also call this:

"Director can check safety and security for aviation activities"

The Director of Civil Aviation can ask you to have safety and security checks if you have an aviation document or an Australian AOC with ANZA privileges. They can also do this if you work with aircraft, air traffic services, or anything related to aviation. This includes people who test pilots or check if they're healthy enough to fly.

The Director can carry out these checks themselves for anyone involved in aviation. They can also do checks in Australia for people who have a New Zealand AOC with ANZA privileges.

If the Director is checking on you, they can ask you to give them information that they think is important for the check.

For people with an Australian AOC with ANZA privileges, the Director can only do checks if CASA (the Australian aviation authority) asks them to.

The Director does all of this to make sure that civil aviation is safe and secure.
