Unruly passenger offences - Unruly passenger offences

65Q: Form of infringement notice

You could also call this:

"Explains what's on a notice for being naughty on a plane"

When you get an infringement notice for an unruly passenger offence, it will have specific information on it. The notice will tell you when and where the offence happened, and what kind of offence it was. It will also show you how much you need to pay as a fine.

The notice will explain where you can pay the fine and by when you need to pay it. It will tell you how to pay using a special method called section 65R. There will be a short explanation of how a part of the Summary Proceedings Act applies to your case.

You'll see that you have the right to ask for a hearing if you want one. The notice will also tell you what might happen if you don't pay the fine or ask for a hearing. There might be other details on the notice too.

The amount you might have to pay depends on what you did wrong. If you did something very serious, like interfering with the aircraft, you might have to pay $1,000. For less serious things, like not following crew instructions, the fine might be $600. For other offences like smoking or drinking alcohol when you shouldn't, the fine is usually $500.
