Gambling Act 2003

Preliminary provisions

7: Meaning of significant influence in casino

You could also call this:

"What it means to have a big say in how a casino is run"

You have a significant influence in a casino if you are a director of the company that owns the casino licence. You can also have a significant influence if you are the chief executive or a senior manager of the casino. This means you help make big decisions about how the casino is run.

You can also have a significant influence if you own a lot of shares in the company that owns the casino licence, which means you have control of 20% or more of the voting rights. The Secretary or the Gambling Commission might also think you have a significant influence if you have a big interest in how the casino is managed or owned. They can decide this even if you do not fit into one of the categories mentioned earlier.

If you are considered a director under section 126(1) of the Companies Act 1993, you are included as a director of the company that owns the casino licence. This helps decide if you have a significant influence in the casino. The Secretary or the Gambling Commission can still think you have a significant influence even if you do not meet the criteria mentioned earlier.
