Illustration for Gambling Act 2003

If you have a class 4 venue licence, you must follow a rule about gaming machines. Six months after this law starts, you cannot use a gaming machine that takes banknotes worth more than $20 at your venue. You cannot operate these machines or let others use them at your venue. If you do not follow this rule, you can get in trouble and have to pay a fine of up to $10,000 if you are found guilty. This law is part of the Gambling Act 2003, which you can find more information about on the New Zealand legislation website. The rules about this law were changed on 1 July 2013 by section 413 of the Criminal Procedure Act 2011.
