Gambling Act 2003

Gambling - Licensed promoters of class 3 gambling

188: Society may engage licensed promoter

You could also call this:

"A charity group can hire a special helper to run some gambling events, as long as they follow the rules."

A society can hire a licensed promoter to help with some types of gambling. You can think of a licensed promoter like a person who helps organise events. The society can pay the promoter for their work, but the payment must follow certain rules. The payment to the promoter can be a fee, a commission, or something else, but it cannot be more than a certain amount. This amount is either the money made from the event that is used for good causes, or a amount decided by regulations made under section 219. A society must have an agreement with the promoter that meets the regulations made under section 219 before they can work together. When the law talks about gambling that is "conducted regularly", it means the same thing as in section 28(4).
