Gambling Act 2003

Harm prevention and minimisation, enforcement, and other matters - Other matters

368: Regulations relating to forms of gambling and gambling equipment

You could also call this:

"Rules about what is and isn't gambling and what equipment is used for gambling"

The Governor-General can make rules about what is and is not gambling. You need to know that these rules can say what acts or things are not considered gambling. The Governor-General can also make rules about what machines or devices are considered gambling equipment.

The Governor-General can decide if a device is a gaming machine or not. You can find out more about how these rules are published by looking at Part 3 of the Legislation Act 2019. These rules are called secondary legislation.

The Governor-General can also decide if a type of gambling is a New Zealand lottery or not. These decisions help clarify what is and is not allowed under the law. You can learn more about the law and how it applies to different situations.
