Gambling - Classes of gambling - Class 3 gambling

27: Meaning of class 3 gambling

You could also call this:

"What is class 3 gambling, where prizes are over $5,000 and money goes to good causes"

When you hear about class 3 gambling, it means a type of gambling that meets certain rules. You need to know that the money made from this type of gambling is used for approved purposes. The total value of prizes must be more than $5,000.

There must be rules for the game, and the gambling must follow these rules. The gambling cannot use a gaming machine, and no one can get a commission for running the game, except a licensed promoter. The Secretary has not said that this type of gambling belongs to a different class.

The game rules must be satisfied by the way the gambling is conducted. You can find more information about the rules for class 3 gambling in the Gambling Act 2003 and the Gambling Amendment Act 2015.
