The Lotteries Commission has some main jobs. You can think of these jobs as their main tasks. They are to run lotteries in New Zealand to make money that will be given out by the New Zealand Lottery Grants Board, or for a special community purpose as outlined in section 245. They also have to make as much money as possible from these lotteries, while making sure that people are not put at risk of problem gambling or underage gambling.

The Commission has to make rules for how the lotteries are run, following section 243. They give advice to the Minister about lotteries in New Zealand.

The Commission's tasks are important for how lotteries work in New Zealand.
