The Registrar of Unions can cancel a union’s registration, but only in two specific situations. The first is if the union asks the Registrar to cancel its registration. The second is if the Employment Relations Authority tells the Registrar to cancel the registration.

The Employment Relations Authority can only tell the Registrar to cancel a union’s registration if the union no longer meets the requirements set out in section 14(1). This section explains what a union needs to do to be registered.
