217: Appeal to Court of Appeal against conviction or order or sentence in respect of contempt of court

You could also call this:

"You can appeal to a higher court if you disagree with a decision made against you under the Employment Relations Act."

If you are found guilty of doing something wrong under the Employment Relations Act, you can appeal to the Court of Appeal. You can also appeal if a court makes an order against you under section 140(6) or section 196. This means you can ask the Court of Appeal to look at your case again, like you would if you had been found guilty of a crime and sentenced by the High Court.

If the court makes an order against you, you can appeal to the Court of Appeal. But this does not apply if you have done something wrong under section 142R. For that, the Criminal Procedure Act 2011 applies instead.

You should know that the rules for appealing are a bit different depending on what you have done wrong.

  2. Subsection (1) does not apply to an offence under section 142R, but the Criminal Procedure Act 2011 applies to that offence.
