Illustration for Employment Relations Act 2000

You can share information with other agencies to help them do their job. A Labour Inspector and the department can share information with other agencies if it helps them do their job, as outlined in section 223(1). You can also get information from other agencies if it helps you do your job. You can share documents or information with a regulatory agency, such as the Privacy Act 2020, if it helps them do their job. When you share information, you can set conditions on how it is used, like how it is stored or who can see it. A regulatory agency includes organisations like the New Zealand Police, the Inland Revenue Department, and WorkSafe New Zealand, as well as agencies defined in regulations, such as those under section 191 of the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015. This information sharing applies even if there are other rules that say you cannot share information, but it must follow other laws, including the Privacy Act 2020.
