When you read sections 235B to 235F, you need to know what some words mean. An infringement fee is the fee for an offence specified in section 235E. An infringement offence means you did something wrong, like breaking a rule in the Employment Relations Act 2000.

You can commit an infringement offence in three ways: you can fail to comply with some requirements in the Act, like section 64(1) or (2), 65(1)(a), or 130(1), or section 81(2) of the Holidays Act 2003. You can also commit an infringement offence if you break a rule that is prescribed by regulations. Another way is if you fail to comply with a requirement made under section 229(1)(d) within the required time period.
