Local Government Act 2002

Structure and reorganisation of local government - Local Government Commission

31: Report to Minister on matters relating to local government

You could also call this:

“The Commission checks on local government and tells the Minister and councils what they find”

The Commission can look at things about local government and tell the Minister and local authorities what they think. They can do this whenever they feel it’s important.

The Commission must look at things about local government when the Minister asks them to. They have to tell the Minister and the local authorities what they think about these things.

When the Minister asks the Commission to look at something, they must tell everyone by putting it in the Gazette right away.

If a local authority gets a report or suggestion from the Commission, they need to think about it and tell the Commission what they think. They must do this by the date the Commission says, or within 20 working days if no date is given.
