In this part of the law, you need to understand some important words:

An assessment of drinking water means looking at the drinking water services available to communities in a local area. This includes private and community-owned water supplies, but not water supplies for individual homes.

An assessment of wastewater and other sanitary services means looking at these services available to communities in a local area, but not for individual properties.

A domestic self-supplier is explained in section 10 of the Water Services Act 2021.

Drinking water is defined in section 6 of the Water Services Act 2021.

Drinking water services means supplying drinking water to communities up to the point where it enters each house or business.

124Interpretation

  1. In this Part,—

    assessment,—

    1. in relation to drinking water,—
      1. means an assessment of drinking water services available to communities in the district of the territorial authority, including private and community-owned or community-operated drinking water supplies; but
        1. does not include assessments in relation to domestic self-suppliers; and
        2. in relation to wastewater and other sanitary services,—
          1. means an assessment of wastewater services and other sanitary services available to communities in the district of the territorial authority; but
            1. does not include assessments in relation to individual properties

            domestic self-supplier has the meaning given in section 10 of the Water Services Act 2021

              drinking water has the meaning given in section 6 of the Water Services Act 2021

                drinking water services means the supply of drinking water to communities to the point of supply of each dwelling house and commercial premise to which drinking water is supplied

                  local government organisation means a local authority, council-controlled organisation, or subsidiary of a council-controlled organisation, that provides water services

                    point of supply has the meaning given in section 13 of the Water Services Act 2021

                      sanitary services has the same meaning as sanitary works in section 25(1)(a), (b), (d), (h), and (i) of the Health Act 1956
